Story
It all started with one question
In language teaching, a task has traditionally come in a single format. One learner learns best by writing, another by speaking, a third by choosing from options. We wanted the same task to adapt to all of these, and the learner to choose how to complete the task the teacher has shared.
Our first tool was created even before actual development began: spelling correction that guided learners towards the right answer as they typed. The idea was simple. When learners practise a new language, they should arrive at the right answer, not be left alone with a mistake.
At the same time, something emerged that we had not set out to build: automatic assessment. When the tasks shared by teachers checked themselves, teachers no longer had to make a separate version for each learner or spend their evenings marking. One task setting served the writer, the speaker and the chooser. Time was freed up for what it belongs to: teaching.
Since then we have worked across all levels of education. We started in basic education, moved on to vocational education, and from there to higher education and adult education. Today our focus is on Finnish language teaching, language skills assessment and profession-specific language training.

Where the data is located: SIGNAL language assessment data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany, and is not transferred outside the EU or EEA. The Reactored learning environment runs in Google’s server environment in Zurich, Switzerland, which has an adequacy decision from the European Commission. In both cases, processing complies with the GDPR.

Team
Behind Reactored is a small core team and a broad partner network. We develop our solutions in-house and also work on a project basis with several technology and learning-material producers. This way each project gets exactly the expertise it needs, without the core team becoming heavy.
